Buying a pre owned Diamond or Ring privately

Buying a pre owned diamond, ring or any other type of jewellery can be a cost effective and smart choice, as most private sellers want to sell their jewellery items due to genuine relationship or financial reasons and not for profit. Some private sellers are also willing to sell their jewellery at a big loss just to get back a portion of what they paid. When it comes to pre owned jewellery there are genuine bargains out there and our Jewellery Classifieds section is a great place to find them.

Why it makes good sense to buy pre owned jewellery

1: Precious metals, diamonds and some gemstones are the most recyclable expensive commodities in the world. In fact many businesses buy second hand unwanted fine jewellery, gold and diamonds from the public to recycle and resell back to the industry. The recycled materials will be used to make new jewellery that ends up in a jewellery store and sold as brand new. Nothing wrong with that at all, in fact it's also good for our environment. However this also means that if someone buys a pre owned item of fine jewellery, diamond or a gemstone at a good price then they are saving money without compromising on quality, as they are simply getting it instead of it being recycled and coming back as new into a store at a higher price.

2: Pre owned jewellery made from precious metals can usually be modified, resized and restored to brand new by a manufacturing jeweller, for a nominal cost.

3: Most pre owned jewellery can be remodelled to something else. Even after spending on remodelling the buyer may end up saving hundreds or thousands of dollars, compared to buying the same new item from a jewellery store. When remodelled the pre owned jewellery becomes new anyway (as long as no set stones are already damaged).

4: Diamonds are unlikely to be damaged or scratched as they are the hardest substance known to man. So if a diamond is pre owned (second hand) it can still be in new condition, like it was once in the jewellery store, before it was worn.
Note: Diamonds can still get damaged through neglect or accidents, but most diamonds if worn with care (even for 100 years) with a good clean they come up like brand new. That's why they say: "A Diamond is Forever".
